It’s summer!
It is summer! There is very little that can compare to the thrill of that last day of school. Your heart beats a little bit faster all day, knowing that when that bell rings you are FREE! Months of no homework, no schedules, no classes, no teachers, no responsibility–what could be better? And for some it is not just the end of the school year, but the end of an era as they move on to a career or tertiary education opportunities. Almost all of us, at some point in our lives, have felt that thrill.
Well, reality hardly fits that fantasy–after all, parents have a way of piling on extra chores over the summer!–but it is a great change for the weeks that it lasts.
Summer does tend to bring added stress and complication for parents, who have to juggle irregular schedules, transportation and child care. Fortunately, there are often a number of activities that can not only occupy our youth during the summer, but can also provide new experiences and new skills that are not always possible to enjoy during school months.
In Freeport, this summer’s activities range from learning to sail, soccer camp, a theatre arts school–encompassing acting, technical production and theatre production, swimming, basketball and numerous other sports camps. While costs range from well under $100 to $200+, the costs are generally much lower than is typical in other parts of the world. Participants gain new abilities, plus meet new people and usually come away with great lasting memories.
So if your child tells you they are bored this summer, sign them up for one of these great activities. And don’t forget the sunscreen!
